With Regret

We regret to announce the death of Mrs Ena (Georgina) Brownlee, 27 Deramore Ave.  The funeral took place on Thursday 13th May.  We wish to express our prayers and sympathy on behalf of her daughter Joyce.

Thursday Together Thursday 20th May is our outing. Members and friends are asked to meet in the Burney Room at 1.30pm and the tour will take us around some places in Co Down. After shopping and a meal the coach will return to Glengormley at approx 7.00pm.

This will be our final meeting before the summer holidays and Thursday Together will resume in mid-September.

Thursday Together This week is ‘Members Day.’   Today our group will be performing with favourite poems, sayings and songs and is a very informal day.  We commence at 2.30pm.  Our outing will be taking place on the 20th May at 1.30pm to Co Down.

If you do not have an opportunity to contribute to Christian Aid during the incoming week please take an envelope from the table in the vestibule and return your gift next Sunday.

Thursday Together We will be having Caroline Rowland this week to tell us about her work with the Salvation Army. The meeting commences at 2.30pm in the Burney Room.  Our outing will be taking place on the 20th May at 1.30pm to Co Down. There are some seats available on the coach and if interested please contact Eileen Gordon or Gloria Mawhinney for further details. The inclusive cost is £10 and we plan to return at 7.00pm

PW Annual Meeting The PW Annual Meetings will be held in Church House on Thursday 6th May at 2.00pm & 7.30pm when the speaker will be Helen Kennedy.  Anyone intending to attend should make their own way there.

PW Outing The PW Outing will take place on Saturday 8th May. Everyone intending to go is asked to meet at the Church at 12.45pm. The bus will depart at 1.00pm sharp. Why not come along early, enjoy a cup of coffee and even have your car washed as well, you will be supporting the Slovenia Team too.

Christian Aid Week

10th – 15th May We can play a small part in helping to alleviate the needs of our world by participating in Christian Aid Week—giving up a few hours to  encourage others to give.  Last year, due to lack of collectors, we were unable to cover all our designated area.  If you feel that you could help this year please speak to Sally Grant on Sunday.

Leadership Meetings

Worship Sub Committee Meeting Friday 30th April at 7pm in Minister’s Room

At a recent meeting of the Congregational Committee on the 13th April, with the recommendation of Kirk Session, it was agreed that our financial position required some economies.  These will be implemented on 1st May 2010.  Regretfully we have had to reduce the hours of our Church Visitor Mr. Jim Lyttle, this means that Jim will be unable to visit as frequently as previously, we would ask those who are housebound and receive a visit from Jim to be understanding in this regard.  Furthermore due to a decline in numbers and also because of loss of investment from the Presbyterian Mutual Society we have had to withdraw the Whitecity bus. Fortunately alternative arrangements have been put in place for those coming from the Whitecity area.  We would to thank staff and “service users”  for their cooperation and understanding in these matters.

We would like to express our gratitude to Mr Fred Ferguson owner of Cavehill Coaches and Mr Clive Hamilton (driver) for the consistent and faithful service over the past ten years in transporting our members from the Whitecity area.

MEN TOGETHER: There will be a meeting of the Men Together committee on Monday 22nd March at 7pm. in Minister’s Room to consider remainder of activities.

MEN TOGETHER: The Mens’ Service is on Sunday 25th April when our speaker will be Rev. John Kirkpatick from Portrush. As usual we propose to have a Mens’ Choir and the practices will be on Thursday 15th and 22nd April at 9.00pm after the main choir practice and a short practice after the breakfast on Saturday 24th April.

If you intend taking part and also coming to the breakfast when our speaker will be Mr. Clarke Gowdy, talking about his work in North Uist in the Western Isles, please sign the relevant sheets on the vestibule table.

Golfing Society: The dates and venues for the 2010 season have now been confirmed as follows:-  Monday 19th April Ballyclare Golf Club; Monday 17th May Massereene Golf Club; Monday 14th June Green Acres Golf Club; Monday 6th September Carrickfergus Golf Club ( Jim Bingham’s Captain’s Day)  The fixture cards are on the vestibule table.

Shoebox Appeal  Please continue to leave all donations of wool and buttons for the shoebox appeal craft in the box at the vestibule table.  Thanks Ann and Maureen.

Easter Newsletter 

The annual reports and Easter newsletter are ready for distribution and available in the vestibule for collection.

Trash Fashion

There is a practice for Trash Fashion this Sunday at 6.30pm—8pm.

Trash Fashion Show:  Sat 27th March from 7pm-9pm.  Everyone welcome to attend a night of fashion, fun and drama.  Remember it’s not just for Girls!!

Organisations

PW meets in the Burney Room on Mon 15th March at 8pm.  The evening will take the form of a “Quiz Night and Easter Preparation”.  All women of our Church Family and their friends are warmly welcome to join with us. 

Thursday Together  This week the Rev Henry Wilson, one of our former assistants, will be giving us a talk on his work as Chaplain in the Royal Victoria Hospital. If you are interested you will be made very welcome to join our group at 2.30pm in the Burney Room.

Would all organisation leaders (for reports) and those wishing to supply items for the newsletter please note that the cut-off date for Annual Report & Easter newsletter is 14th March. All items and reports must be with Frank Murray by then so that they are ready for distributing by the 21st March. As this is always a hectic period please don’t wait until 21st but give your material to me as soon as possible.  Thanking you in anticipation.  Frank.

Shoebox Appeal

Are you spring cleaning??? If you are would you please look out for any wool or buttons which you could donate to this appeal?  I know Christmas is a long way off but we need to be knitting scarves, hats, hand puppets and pencil cases for next years boxes over the coming months.  We were overwhelmed by the response we had last year and would like to thank everyone who donated wool or knit for the shoeboxes.  Special thanks have to go to the Craft Group who once again is helping this year. So if you do come across any wool or buttons please bring them to Church and put them in the box which will be in the vestibule.  Thanks again. Ann and Maureen.

The Lounge Meets this evening 6:45 – 8pm. The Issues series continues with Boy-Girl Relationships.
Also the final Trash Fashion Workshop is on Saturday 13th March 2-4pm we need you to come, have your outfits ready to finish and practice the drama.

The Hot Chocolate team will be out on the church car park on the following Saturday evenings:- 13th & 27th of March and the 10th & 24th of April.
