Ruth’s Journal – January 2010
Ruth Lawrie is at the commencement of a re-neighbouring scheme in the White City area, originally from England, she studied at Belfast Bible college for two years, she has a full-time job in the centre of Belfast, she is a member of Glengormley Presbyterian Church
I moved into White City on January 1st 2010 to begin a re-neighbouring project with Glengormley Presbyterian Church. It was a very snowy and icy move but I have settled in well and it’s beginning to feel like home. Neighbours are friendly and it is handy having a small grocery shop only a hundred yards way. I am in a full time job so the settling in process has to be fitted in around that, folks from church have given me a table and chairs, so I’ve been able to have a few friends around for meals. I have started volunteering at the local community centre on a Monday and Tuesday evening so am getting to know a few people and gradually getting more involved with things.
This week, as a church, we have begun reading and studying a book called ‘Building Relationships with God’s Love’. It is a reminder to me of why I am here in White City, I am excited to start building up relationships here and to find ways in which I can serve in the estate. It is my prayer that God would be able to use me to show his love to the people in this community.
