COMMUNITY NOTICES

Guys and Dolls – Thursday 31st May at 7.45pm, Theatre at the Mill Newtownabbey – for more details see notice board.

Olympic Torch Relay 3rd June 2012 10.00am – I am writing to inform you that the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay will be travelling through Newtownabbey on Sunday 3rd June 2012. This is day 16 of the Olympic Torch Relay’s 70 day journey throughout the U.K. which is the games organisers way of bringing the spirit of the London Olympics and messages of peace and unity to the local communities.

The Torch Relay will begin at 10.00am at the Prince Charles Way roundabout and travel down O’Neills Road through Cloughfern roundabout and onto Station Road at 10.22am, turning left onto Shore Road and 10.31am. From here it will travel north towards Carrickfergus passing Jordanstown at 10.45am.

Whilst there will be no significant road closures in the area, the PSNI have advised there will be a system of brief rolling road closures in operation to ensure the safety of the Torch Bearers and Relay Convoy. The Relay is travelling at 4mph and there are up to 16 vehicles involved so it is highly likely that there will be some traffic disruption on the route and surrounding areas. As your Church is either on the Relay route or in the vicinity of the route I would like to give you and your congregation advance notice of the potential for minor disruption and traffic delays on Sunday 3rd June between 10.00am and 11.00am, when many services are being held.

Prayer Diary

Monday 21st May – Sometimes, praying is the hardest thing to do. Our thoughts wander and our concerns and worries keep all else out. They want sole occupation of our lives- and they get it! At the start of this week, find time to ‘BE Still’ before God- who knows all about you and understands. He loves you.

Tuesday 22nd May – Thank God for the gift of Church Family and the loving care that many show in this place, in acts of kindness, support and encouragement.

Wednesday 23rd May – Pray for those who know on-going ill health, which makes looking to the future difficult. Pray that the assurance of ‘God with them’, will calm their fears and replace them with Peace and Hope.

Thursday 24th May – Exam time brings stresses to young people, their families and their teachers. We are blessed in this place to have some great examples of all of these. Support them with your prayers, so that, in putting God first, they will all give of their best. Pray that they will trust He sees beyond the ‘now’, to the future he wants for them,- guiding them in Love.

Friday 25th May – The economic crisis continues in many countries. We have heard about the Spiritual need there is at home and in Europe. As the things that people have put their trust in crumble away and disappoint, pray that the Light of the Gospel will shine through Christian people- pointing to Jesus, the One who does not change and can always be trusted.

Saturday 26th May – Look Back- over the week and thank God for His care for you. Look Around-at the needs of those near to you and bring them to God. Look Forward- to meeting together tomorrow, to worship our Mighty God.

Sunday 27th May -“One day every tongue will confess You as Lord- One day every knee will bow”- may we do this from sincere hearts this day- and in the lives we live every day.

Prayer Diary

Monday 14th May – This is Christian Aid week. As volunteer collectors arrive on our doorstep, we pray that people will respond willingly and give generously to this worthy cause which seeks to address the plight of the world’s poor. The Christian Aid poster states ‘Let’s give the tools to help people in poverty out of poverty’.

Tuesday 15th May – The annual general meeting of the Presbyterian Orphan and Children’s Society meets today in Church House.

Give thanks for the many practical ways that our Church is reaching out to the vulnerable and needy in our province. Remember in particular all the Society’s secretaries, such as our own Cecil Robinson, who work tirelessly in congregation to promote interest and financial support in this vital work.

Wednesday 16th May – Let us remember with gratitude the remarkable life of the late Ray Davey who had such an influence on students during his period of Chaplaincy at Queens University. He was also responsible for founding the Corrymeela Community. Through his practical action and spoken word, out of his deep Christian conviction, Ray Davey literally brought a ‘Ray of Hope’ to people in seemingly hopeless situations and changed their lives forever.

Thursday 17th May – Thursday Together are going on their annual outing today – a much looked forward to event in their programme.
Friday 18th May – Please continue to pray for the Orr family……. For Graham as he leads a day retreat for OMF staff in Sevenoaks on 23rd May. For Alison that she might see lasting fruit in the lives of those who attend the Alpha Course on Thursday mornings. For Kathryn, starting her AS exams this month. For Daniel who will be sitting GCSE and AS Japanese as well as the first part of his Maths GCSE.

Saturday 19th May – Remember the out-going Moderator of the General Assembly, Dr Ivan Patterson. Give thanks for his year in office when he and his wife travelled extensively at home and abroad bringing greetings from our Church here in Ireland. Please pray for the Rev. Roy Patton who will be formally elected as Moderator on Monday 28th May.

Sunday 20th May – On this day when we come to Church to worship God and sing praises to His name, let us not forget the power of prayer.

Give thanks for the team of helpers at Parent and Toddlers. Pray that as the hall is used each week to provide a safe place for the children to play that Christ’s love would be evident.

Thursday 15th March

Thursday Together meets each Thursday afternoon. Give thanks for those who organise the programme of meetings and for those who provide lifts. Pray that as they meet they would enjoy friendship and fellowship together.

In just 2 weeks from today the Kenya Team will leave for Africa to begin building work on a school in Joska just outside Nairobi. Pray for the team as they put final preparations in place, for safety travelling and during their stay.

Saturday 17th March

Pray for Tommy and Helen Bruce and their children, Daniel, Rachel, Isaac and Abigail. The children have settled well in their new schools. Pray for Tommy and Helen as they continue to build new relationships within the congregations of Trinity and Trenta and as the churches there seek to reach out to the people of Letterkenny.

Sunday 18th March

“Love one another deeply, from the heart.” 1 Peter 1: 22

Give thanks for the love that has been shown by fellow believers especially in difficult times. Look around for those who may need a smile, a hug or a listening ear.
